Raleigh NC, March 11/08. The New York Times published an article in the Saturday March 8, 2008 edition. This article highlights the progressive banking industry in North Carolina as it relates to the Unbanked/Underserved segment in the U.S. through its focus on Nuestro Banco (the first Hispanic Bank chartered in North Carolina).
The story is titled “Banks Springing Up to Serve the Underserved” and is on the front page of the “Your Money” section, and includes three pictures of Nuestro Banco’s operation and approach to this emerging opportunity.
David Flores, President and CEO of Nuestro Banco says “I am extremely excited and honored that we were chosen to highlight how this particular challenge of the large Unbanked/Underserved segment is becoming a greater focus of the banking industry across the U.S.”
The article talks about the how the integration of non-traditional banking services, like check cashing for immigrants, combined with traditional bank services and products has the potential to create a model that can bring some of these individuals into the banking system
